Facial Cleansing Dos and Don'ts

You aren’t basic… so your facial cleansing routine shouldn’t be either.

I used to be under the impression that cleansing your face was only required to remove makeup. As I have gotten older and slightly wiser, I’ve learned that it does so much more!

A cleanser can do more than just remove makeup and dirt. They have ingredients that target specific skin concerns such as dryness, excess oil, acne, sensitivity, redness, signs of aging, and more. This is why it is so important to find the right cleanser for your skin type and needs. A good cleanser is the base of a good skincare routine.

Cleansing Tips:

Use a professional cleanser. Professional cleansers are made with higher quality ingredients than cleansers you find at Walmart or other stores. These potent ingredients have smaller molecules, allowing the products to penetrate deeper into the skin instead of staying on the surface. They are also more concentrated so you need a smaller amount and a little goes a long way.

Double Cleanse. Have you ever washed your face quickly and while drying you notice makeup on the towel? That tells you that your quick cleanse wasn’t enough. Our Estheticians recommend adding an extra cleanse after the first to ensure that makeup, dirt, dead skin cells, and free radicals have been removed.

Let your cleanser sit. After massaging your cleanser into your skin leave it for a minute or so. This way your skin can absorb it’s benefits before rinsing it off.

Facial Cleansing No Nos

·      Using a dirty or abrasive towel to wash or dry your skin

·      Applying your facial cleanser to dry skin

·      Not washing your hands prior to washing your face

·      Not using the appropriate cleanser for your skin type/condition

·      Not cleansing your skin after removing your makeup

·      Washing your face with water that is either too hot or too cold
